Participation in the weekly trash pickups by Penn Waste can be paused for a maximum of one quarter per year. Residents who wish to file a temporary exemption for pickup should contact the Township Administration Office at 717-766-0178 or email your request to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Penn Waste offers, at no cost to our residents, a large 65-gallon or a small 35-gallon recycling cart to each home in Silver Spring Township. Our goal is to reduce the amount of recyclable materials put into the regular trash and increase recycling. Contact the Township Administration Office at 717-766-0178 or by email at email@example.com to make those arrangements. The Township will work with Penn Waste to coordinate drop off the recycling cart.

The Joint Compost Facility, which is only for yard waste, is available to Mechanicsburg Borough and Silver Spring Township residents only. Contractors may not utilize the facility. The annual access card fee is $15 per calendar year, Jan 1 – Dec 31 and is not prorated. The facility is currently open 7 days a week during daylight hours (days/times of operation are adjusted seasonally, Questions about the facility, obtaining the renewable access card (proof of residency required), or renewing, please call 717-766-0178 x3001. This is a self-serve facility.
We encourage you to adopt "Grasscycling". Mow often enough so that only 1/3 of the leaf height is removed. This may require frequent mowing, especially in the spring. Be sure to mow when grass is dry and attempt to maintain grass height at 2-3 inches. For more information, visit the Penn Waste website at pennwaste.com. Grass clippings can also be composted at your home. The Joint Compost Facility does not accept grass clippings.

As the low bidder, Penn Waste was awarded the contract for unlimited trash & recycling pickup at a 2024 cost of $90.63 per quarter for regular volume and $78.12 per quarter for low volume.
With this unlimited service, all trash must be placed in the cart for automated pickup. For regular service, one additional cart is available, if needed.

Yes. You can place one bulk item per week. We ask residents to call Penn Waste 717-767-4456 to alert them of the bulk item beforehand.
Yes. Penn Waste will provide three (3) yard waste pickups and one Christmas tree pickup per year.
